The restaurant’s owners, Ticha and Dan Krinsky, opened Tierra in Midtown in 1999 and have spent the past nine years perfecting their signature dishes – black bean soup laced with smoky bacon, Puerto Rican pinono, and their El Salvador-style quesodilla, the papusa – while adjusting the menu each season to keep it fresh.

The Krinskys’ knowledge of and passion for Central American food goes deep: twice a year, they close the restaurant to travel to Latin America, where they visit markets and restaurants, and talk with local chefs.
