Blackberry App Store

Apple gives iPhone apps a lot of press, but Blackberry has also recently launched an impressive website featuring over 700 cool, useful applications for its handsets. Blackberry App World offers apps for both recreational and professional uses, including Salesforce Mobile and the ad-free, web based radio, Pandora, as well as a supremely helpful Google Maps application which offers GPS service. The categories range from social networking & sharing to news sites and travel apps. Many applications are free; those that aren’t usually sell for about $2.99.

RIM, the makers of every exec’s essential, the Blackberry, is preparing to release the Blackberry Storm, a sleek touch-screen handset to rival Apple’s iPhone.  Impressively devised, the Storm offers users a full keyboard in both landscape and portrait modes (the iPhone only allows portrait-typing) with tactile feedback (dubbed a “clickable screen” because you can depress the screen keys) and auto-rotation.  The handset sports GPS service, a full HTML browser, expansive memory space, a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, a 3.25″ wide screen (in landscape mode) with flash video capabilities, Microsoft Office utilities and compatibility with both corporate and internet-based email clients. Finally, the Storm can connect to EV-DO Rev. A or HSPA 3G cellular networks and includes Facebook and Flickr applications for mobile networking. Price is $199 and it will be sold through Verizon starting on 11/21.
