Restaurant of the Year
Tierra, the AJC’s Restaurant of the Year, owes its stand-out status to an original menu and authentic Central American cuisine. The restaurant’s owners, Ticha and Dan Krinsky, opened Tierra in Midtown in 1999 and have spent the past nine years perfecting their signature dishes – black bean soup laced with smoky bacon, Puerto Rican pinono, and their El Salvador-style quesodilla, the papusa – while adjusting the menu each season to keep it fresh.
The Krinskys’ knowledge of and passion for Central American food goes deep: twice a year, they close the restaurant to travel to Latin America, where they visit markets and restaurants, and talk with local chefs. Visit Tierra on Tuesdays for $5 margaritas, and on Wednesdays for half-price bottles of wine. 1425 Piedmont Ave. 404.874.5951
